Misc. Projects

I find this on tutorial on Pinterest and with a big event coming up this summer, I though why not try it and see if I want to use them…..

Here is the original post from Snug as a Bug Baby

And here are my roses….

I would totally recommend using a low temp glue gun, and one that has a trigger, I used a high temp gun that you have to push the glue stick through with your finger, it was a pain.

Another Pinterest find is the tin can luminaries.  My pin was a reported spam link so I went to trusted Google and found several tutorials that said fill the can with water and freeze,

P5250002

Notice that the design is already drawn on, the Google results suggested to draw it on after its frozen, that would probably work great with a simple design but trying to punch a palmetto tree and moon it was easier to drawn it before freezing.

P5250005

In process, instead of using a nail, I used a metal punch, this caused little circles of tin to get in the ice, so don’t let the ice melt in the drain.  If you just a nail, you probably wouldn’t have that problem.

Will post pictures of the finished painted project.

After getting a Cricut for Christmas I finally created my first scrapbook page!

This is the title page for my travel scrapbook.  Can’t wait to keep creating with my Cricut

And finally a cross stitch update

Wild Rumpus

We had a Wild Rumpus of a baby shower recently.  The theme of all three showers has been related to a children’s book, see previous post for the first two.  I tried making cake balls……

I think I used too much icing but they turned out pretty good for my first attempt.  I used chocolate candy melts and sprinkled them with green sprinkles.

A Max for Baby

Baby Gifts

When I started thinking about gifts, I decided that nothing was more Southern than seersucker, a search of the internet revealed that not many people had used seersucker to make a baby blanket.  So I got fleece, seersucker, and satin binding.  I made all three blankets, and waited until the last shower to give them to the mommies to be.  I love books, and decided to give them The Real Mother Goose Book.

Now I have to get back to some other projects, like my afghan and a my cross stitch piece of winter geese.  And to keep reading towards my goal of fifty books in 2012.  I strongly encourage you to read The Hunger Games trilogy, I know there is a lot of hype about the movie right now, but the books are AMAZING!  Read them!

Baby Showers

I have three friends that are pregnant, and I am excited to get to host three different showers! Each shower has a different children’s book associated with it.  The first was the Very Hungry Caterpillar, and the second was a Sweet Pea/Pea in a Pod showering with the Princess and Pea fairy tale, and the last will be Where the Wild Things are.

And the pea pods are not made out of fondant, but

That’s right Airheads and Skittles!  I’m not very good at tutorials but it is really easy, soften the Airheads (I put them on the stove while the cupcakes were baking), and then gently pull them in both directions. I tried using a rolling pin, but stretching them works just as well, be careful that you don’t pull them too far or you will get holes.

I found an oval cookie cutter set and cut them out.  I used three Skittles and put them in the center, folded over and Voila! Pea Pod cupcake decorations

P3030132

My mom helped me out and she actually finished them for me, and I think they are super cute!

Here is the corsage! Smaller beads would have probably worked better, but it is still cute!

Used spilt peas as decorations as well!

Guests signed the respective books for each shower for the little bundle of joy!

It’s 2012

Happy New Year! I know that I’m a little behind but better late than never. I was doing some house cleaning and found bags of old snippets, and I had leftover clear ornaments. So I decided to get started on making ornaments for Christmas.

P1220248

P1220252

The threads are from various cross stitch projects from my younger days.  The yarn is from a needlepoint project that I made for my Granny.  It was a Norwegian fjord scene.

I saved the wrappers from the crayons I used in the crayon art, and made ornaments out of those as well.  It could make a pretty neat teacher gift.

P1220238

I made another baby quilt, it was suppose to be a Christmas present, she did at least get the quilt top for Christmas but I just finished the entire blanket.  This was done especially with a little girl in mind.  In hindsight I probably should have used brighter colors but it is still a nice blanket.

And here is a sneak peek at my next projects!

These will be presents so shhhh!

‘Tis the season

for decorating, gift making, and continuing to make things you find on Pinterest.
I recently discovered deco mesh for wreath making, and I had pinned some candy cane wreaths on Pinterest but wasn’t sure where to find one, but shopping your small businesses pays off!  My cousin owns a shop in Northern Florida called Sunsations, and there is was! So now it graces my mantel……

And at my office is a Clemson Christmas Tree…..
PC050149
So do you every have that friend that some years it is easy to buy for and other years it is impossible to get an idea?  Well I had that dilemma this year, but finally the idea hit me.  So I made her present, and make some from me as well.  And just for the record the gift giving industry is missing a HUGE market with not making Scrabble designed wine glasses. I guess it is just me and my bf that drink wine and play Scrabble :)
PC180178
PC180167
Since there was no where to purchase Scrabble wine glasses I decided to make my own.  I tried to do diy rub on transfers and that was a huge fiasco!  So I went back to my original idea of etching tiles with our initials on them.  What do you think?
I’m helping with a huge National Conference in July 2012, I’m in charge of the table decorations and several other areas.  My idea is Burlap and Lace and there are some of the vases I plan on using.  I’m looking for thicker to burlap to really pop against the mason jar.  Love the lace ribbon!
Burlaplace

I squeezed in a little time to cross stitch!  I haven't cut it out yet but I love this little ornament!

And Clemson is headed to the Orange Bowl!
